The Community Foundation of the New River Valley has a long track-record of providing individual charities with short-term, small grants and technical assistance. The Fund for the NRV enables us to have a long-term, positive impact on our community by investing our time and funding on helping these charities work together.

For the 2017 GiveBigNRV Giving Day, we're aiming to raise $30,000 for the Fund for the NRV, and we're well one our way with National Bank matching up to $10,000 raised on April 26th. So learn more below and give now to support our work!

THE FUND FOR THE NRV meets our region's most critical needs by:
CONNECTING individuals and organizations working toward common goals.
INSPIRING innovative solutions that address the root causes of our community’s most pressing needs.
EMPOWERING  nonprofit organizations by providing seed funding to move ideas into action.

The Fund for the NRV supports CFNRV grant programs and administrative services for all of our programs, with particular emphasis on several new initiatives:

Thrive: Supporting Nutrition & Health
To thrive is to push beyond mere survival and into a life where a person can be happy, healthy, and productive. This initiative aims to enhance access to food and recreation, expand the availability of local foods , and encourage a culture of health in the NRV. Learn more about Thrive.

First Steps: Investing in Early Childhood Education & Development
Our children's first steps toward a healthy, happy future happen well before they learn to walk.  This initiative aims to develop a comprehensive understanding of the early childhood education and development landscape in the NRV and to support the physical, emotional, and social well-being of NRV children and families. Learn more about First Steps.

Aging in Place: Encouraging Lifespan Friendly Communities
Aging in place allows seniors to maintain a high quality of life, and helping individuals stay in their homes and neighborhoods makes good financial sense for families and communities. This initiative draws together residents, service providers, government officials and developers to encourage lifespan friendly homes, neighborhoods and services. Learn more about Aging in Place.

Nonprofit Leadership Institute: Developing Nonprofit Leadership Skills
The staff and volunteers at over 200 non-profit organizations in the NRV commit their time, expertise, and money to making our community a better place, often with limited budgets and increasing demands. This initiative builds on the CFNRV's strong reputation for nonprofit management training to offer a comprehensive curriculum and forums for information sharing that build the skills and capacity of nonprofit leaders.
