Why do I support the Fund for the NRV?
The Fund for the NRV funds what the funds we manage here cannot do. It funds the projects that take on the bigger issues in our community that no single nonprofit can take on alone. It works by collaboration and seed- funding. Collaboration takes a LOT of work. There are many people at the table, with many ideas and little resources and not one answer to the problem. It takes time and energy to work through the issues and details and come up with an action plan ready for seed-funding.
We worked with the Aging in Place team to help keep seniors living in their own homes. This is an ongoing project. We are working on the old Prices Fork Elementary to turn that building into something the whole community can use. We are working with early childhood groups to provide more access to child care so that families can go to work and know that their child is in a safe and educational environment. We are working with food pantries and food providers to bring farm-fresh healthy food into our food pantries and backpack programs. This is the power of the Fund for the NRV.
The Fund for the NRV knows that:
* $1 invested in early childhood = $7 saved on special education, public assistance and prison
* 1 in 10 older adults fall below the poverty line
* 1in 5 children experience hunger
* Demand far exceeds supply for quality child care
These are not issues we see on the evening news. We do not see these issues flashing at us when we shop or walk down the street. These are not issues we see when we watch a child in a school play. These are issues that are experienced in the quiet of their own homes. These are the issues that the Community Foundation, with its broad and extensive mission, is working to alleviate. We can all help to give these families a helping hand so they have the power to help themselves. We can all make a difference in the quality of their lives- and thereby our own.
Please help us help our neighbors by supporting the work that the Fund for the NRV is doing. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
