Each year, the CFNRV struggles to keep up with requests from at least 30 backpack programs and food pantries applying for support. To ensure that no one in the NRV goes hungry, we need to improve the distribution of healthy, affordable food across the region.
Our Progress to Date:
We've teamed up with Virginia Cooperative Extension, the Virginia Tech Family Nutrition Program, and the New River Health District to host meetings of the newly formed Regional Food Access and Hunger Relief Network.

Network members, a collection of over 40 different hunger relief agencies throughout the region, have been meeting since September to share best practices, identify common challenges, and mobilize around regional projects like developing an NRV food distribution center or exploring opportunities for bulk purchasing from suppliers or directly from local growers. They are also in the process of developing a NRV Food Directory, a comprehensive list of feeding programs in the NRV.
