At DePaul, we believe the most important work we can do is open doors to hope and belonging.
Our services – including foster care, adoption, and services for individuals with developmental disabilities – help to provide safe homes, permanent families, integrated community support, and opportunities for deep healing. It is our mission to ensure safety, promote permanency, and improve the quality of life for the nearly 600 individuals we serve every day.
In the New River Valley, our services include therapeutic foster care, adoption programs, community-based clinical services, and services for individuals with developmental disabilities. All these initiatives intersect to provide safe homes, permanent families, integrated community support, and opportunities for deep healing. It is our mission to ensure safety, promote permanency, and improve the quality of life for every individual we serve.
In the Commonwealth of Virginia, there are approximately 882 children in foster care that are available for adoption and have yet to find a forever family.
There are also countless adoptive families in our communities who have already provided safety and permanency for traumatized youth. Often these families need ongoing, specialized support to maintain stability and continue progress towards healing. DePaul offers a comprehensive array of adoption programming to assist families and individuals wherever they are in their adoption journeys. Last fiscal year, DePaul helped facilitate 99 successful adoptions for children coming out of the state foster care system and provided essential support to 116 post-adoptive families.
We are very proud of this work, but with expanded resources there is still much more we can do to optimize outcomes for area children and their adoptive families.
In 2019, we are targeting fundraising efforts within the GiveBig platform to enhance NRV regional adoption services.
We hope to build on the generous and important funding support we receive from both the Virginia Department of Social Services
and the Dave Thomas Foundation
to expand DePaul’s critical and specialized community adoption work.
Some of what your donation can help make possible:
Creative recruitment of potential adoptive families
Ideal child preparation for adoption through lifebook work and other healing activities
Access to specialized clinical services for uninsured or underinsured adoptive families
Expanded support group options for adoptive parents
Respite activities for adoptive families weathering the prolonged impacts of child trauma
Therapeutic camp experiences for adoptive families and reunited siblings
Every child deserves to experience the sense of belonging that can only come from a loving home and a forever family, but we can't accomplish this alone.
