Mountain View Humane (MVH) is a 501(c) 3 that provides low cost, high quality spay/neuter services. Since Mountain View Humane’s opening in 2010, we have spayed/neutered over 60,000 dogs and cats.

Spay and Neuter
Spay/neuter is a simple solution to the complex problem of the euthanasia epidemic, which destroys 2.7 million animals each year and is a direct result of animals left unaltered in communities. We strive to sterilize any dog or cat that needs it, regardless of the owner's ability to pay. To achieve this, Mountain View Humane raises funds to subsidize surgery costs for roughly half of our clients. About 46% of our owned patients have some portion of their fees paid for through subsidy funding.

Transportation
Mountain View Humane provides FREE "Hip to Snip" transports from locations throughout SW Virginia and southern West Virginia. Mountain View transports once a month from Floyd, Giles, Wythe and Pulaski Counties in the New River Valley. This is a free service to the residents so they have access to Mountain View Humane's services. Mountain View Humane also partners with many animal welfare organizations in the NRV to provide surgical services at a reduced rate.

The Tulip Fund
This fund was created in memory of Tulip, a pretty special Pitbull. Tulip's story is heartbreaking and we want to spay/neuter as many Pitbulls as we can so we can stop the cycle of abuse this breed tends to endure. Tulip may no longer be alive but her memory and her beauty will never be forgotten. You can read Tulip’s story by going to http://www.mountainviewhumane.org/

Training the Next Generation of Veterinarians
In addition to animal welfare organizations, we are helping train the next generation of veterinarians through the Virginia-Maryland College for Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech. Fourth Year veterinary students do a rotation through Mountain View Humane to learn spay/neuter techniques and get hands-on experience in a clinical setting.

Benefits of Spay and Neuter
-Your pets will live longer, healthier lives. Breast cancer in your female dog is nearly eliminated if she is spayed before her 1st heat cycle. Even if she is spayed after her first cycle, spaying reduces the risk of cancer.
-Neutering your male companion prevents testicular cancer, perianal tumors, and some prostate problems.
-Your spayed female pet won't go into heat.
-Your male dog will be less likely to roam away from home.
-Spay and neuter helps to reduce uterine infections.
-Spay and neuter may help eleminate unwanted behaviors like marking or aggression.
