OUR COMMUNITY HAS A DENTAL HEALTH CRISIS.
25% of adults over the age of 60 in the New River Valley have lost all their teeth. Tooth loss can contribute to poor nutrition, lack of employment, and social isolation.
55% of Southwest Virginia’s third grade children had tooth decay in their primary or permanent teeth in 2014-2015. Tooth decay is the most common chronic disease of childhood – 5 times more prevalent than asthma—despite the fact that it is preventable.
WE ARE DETERMINED TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
Our mission is to create a culture of good dental/oral health in the New River Valley, and facilitate care for the growing number of our neighbors in the NRV who cannot afford dental health services.
We execute a number of activities in support of this mission, including:
MATCHING financially eligible adults with dentists who volunteer their time to provide essential care
PROVIDING every first grader in the NRV with a dental kit containing a children’s toothbrush, paste, and floss
SUPPLYING dental teaching aids for elementary school instructors and additional toothbrushes and paste for school nurses
CONDUCTING dental screenings for elementary schools
CONTRIBUTING posters for school walls warning about excessive consumption of sugary drinks
Your donation today helps us continue this critical health care effort. With your support, we are able to help both children and adults in need get the crucial dental services that no person should go without. And when you make a donation on April 26, it will be matched by Board members Joe and Margot Thompson.
THANK YOU FOR GIVING THE GIFT OF A SMILE!
