WHO WE ARE
United Way of Montgomery, Radford and Floyd is a local, independently incorporated, volunteer governed organization. Our mission is to unite local people and resources to improve lives in the New River Valley.
United Way unites individual and corporate donations to achieve measurable, lasting results. Our organization is primarily known for funding 25 local partner organizations, but we also provide several direct service programs, and are a place for individuals and organizations to turn to when critical community needs arise in the New River Valley.
IMPACT AREA FOCUS
Each of our partner agencies and programs provide for critical services to our community in one or more of our impact areas of focus:
Strengthening Families and Youth
Health and Crisis Intervention
Through the United Way community investment process, our partner organizations provide the community investment volunteer teams with a formal funding request, financial information, service numbers, and an in-depth look into the service their organization is providing to the New River Valley community. The community investment teams then distribute funding based on needs and impact. This volunteer driven program is critical to insure our United Way is a good guardian of the donations made by contributors and that donor gifts are used to impact the biggest needs of our community.
In addition to United Way's community investment funding to our partner agencies, our organization provides direct programs throughout our community. Below is a sampling of some of these programs:
Stuff the Bus
– Last year provided over 9,600 school supplies to 537 local low-income children.
Holiday Meal Boxes
– Last year distributed meal boxes to over 750 families in need for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Toys from the Heart
– Serves local children with emergency Christmas assistance.
– Helps connect volunteers with over 140 local non-profit agencies.
Emergency Need Drives
– Helps provide immediate on hand access to food, clothing, diapers, books, etc. in emergency situations.
