The YMCA at Virginia Tech
For youth development, for healthy living, for social responsibility.
We've been serving the NRV community since 1873.

The YMCA at Virginia Tech was founded 144 years ago on Virginia Tech’s campus to support the social, physical, and spiritual heath of the student body. Over the decades, our programs have expanded to encompass a wide variety of services for the whole community. With the 2700 other YMCA’s across the country, we strive to promote youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in all we do.

As part of a national network of Campus YMCA’s, Student Programs are still a strong component of our work. We currently have six teams of student volunteers who focus on issues ranging from education and sustainability to senior citizens and community development. Each group provides direct service to the community in their focus area. In this way, our students fulfill the Campus Y mission to build community through learning, leadership, and service.

At the Y-Center on 1000 N. Main St., community members can enjoy great deals at our Thrift Store, join our Pottery Studio, or get connected with our International Programs, including ESL conversation groups and a morning program for international women. Individuals and community groups can also utilize our space for their own special events and programs. For example, a local foods co-op and several dance clubs meet at the Y.

The YMCA at Virginia Tech supports healthy, sustainable lifestyles through our recycling and Community Garden programs. Local residents can bring batteries, electronics, or textiles to our Thrift Store location for recycling. At the Hale-Y Community Garden on Maywood Street, members enjoy the benefits of fresh, home-grown food from their own plots and learn about organic agriculture through educational programs.

We encourage you to checkout our website at www.vtymca.org for more information about all of our programs and community events. By supporting the YMCA at Virginia Tech, you'll sustain all of these and so much more. Donate today and help us continue to expand opportunities for New River Valley residents to learn, grow, and thrive!
